We always knew you as Grandad John and I have happy memories of childhood visits to stay with you, Grandma and Fred. Homemade coffee ice cream, chickens in the garden and a telescope in the attic - it was all very exotic and exciting.
You also introduced us to the game of sjoelen, and the board that you gave to our family is still used and enjoyed (despite a slight disagreement with Helen about the rules! I’m sure she is probably right). We will think of its maker when we play it at Christmas.

In his eulogy to Grandma, Dad said, 'We are also eternally grateful for the love and support given to her by John, especially in the last few difficult years, we all hope we can return the favour somehow.'
I hope we did just that while he was here and that they're all together now.

You came into our family before I was born when Grandma (and I quote her exactly here) '...was attracted by the well-muscled carpenter's arm and thought, that one would suit me.'
You will always be my Grandad and I will be forever grateful for you.
